I found some new info on the vis economy. Our prior assumptions are flawed and our trades need re-thinking. Also, it is extremely unlikely we will be able to maintain a lvl 50 AotH for more than 1 year. The general prices for trades are made acording to the Universal Vim Index which is the amount of vis you need to trade to get a rook of Vim vis. Intellego's index is 7 therefore you need to trade 7 Intellego vis for 10 vim vis. In the new system, Vim vis is way, way more expensive. This is explained in: http://www.durenmar.de/articles/viseconomy.html . In general, vis is a much more precious comodity than we had previously estimated.

Universal Vis Index (UMI) ordered by most valuable

In : 7
Vi : 10
Co : 12
Cr : 12
Re : 14
Pe : 14
Mu : 15
Im : 19
Ig : 20
Me : 20
Au : 21

Te : 29

Informal Vis Trade Rates based on the UMI

1. Intellego (2:3 or 3:4)
2. Creo, Corpus and Vim (1:1 or 5:4)
3. Muto, Perdo and Rego (3:2)
4. Auram, Ingem, Imaginem and Mentem (2:1)
5. Animal, Aquam and Terram (3:1)
6. Herbam (7:2 or 4:1)

Notes for Febuary 3, 2007

  • Nydia predicts a deadly blizzard is coming in a week. It will be strong enough to bury covenant and the town in forty feet of snow and ice. The magi are concerned.
  • The day of the blizzard comes and Xtopherous wards himself and flies out to see. He finds a blizzard as described, also he finds a huge (several barns) feathered worm that aprears to be flying inside of it, likely causing it. Xtopherous flies back.
  • Silas summons the dead gypsy from hell and asks her about the worm with the help of Materia. They get little out of her and send her back.
  • The magi agree to fly out and meet the threat head on. Murcurio gets to work setting up wards to protect the coventant from the storm if the magi fail.
  • The magi fly back to the worm, invisible, except for Xtopherous who tries to talk to it. He gets eaten for his efforts. Materia tries to erase its mind but is unable to penetrate the beast's might. As it tries to snap at her, Silas sponts a spell that pulls Xtopherous from the beasts maw. He is gravely injured but manages to cast a spell that summons up a mighty torrent of wind that blows the blizzard away. The worm falls, apparently supported by the storm, and splatters to the ground.
  • The lab equipment, tools, and furniture arrive early in the spring along with Enzo the Magister. The magi settle down for some "standard" Hermetic life. Xtopherous heals from his wounds.
  • During the two seasons of study [Brent] asks for permission to trade the 3 pawns of corrupted vis for a pawn of Ingem vis that he needs for a magic item he is creating. The permission is granted and in exchange [Brent] offers to distill 8 Vim vis for the covenant.
  • Xtopherous identifies the vis collected from the worm as a depressing 2 pawns of auram vis.
  • [Brent]'s experiments go very well, and he crafts a magical lamp that shoots gouts of deadly fire. He sets off distilling vis. Murcurio finishes his Parma studies and takes a liking to Creo. Xtopherous learns Artes Liberales from Enzo. The remaining magi spend their time inventing spells.

Notes for January 31, 2007

  • Xtohperous casts Touch of Midas and the 800 lb lump of gold is stored in the meeting hall and is sealed off. The gold is soon cut, weighed and most of it is sent off with a Redcap by the name of Nydia as pre-payments to the various merchants that the mages need things, mostly lab equipment, from.
  • The Magi receive a letter from a Enzo Farrari, a Magister in Artibus from Rome, who found one of the letters Mercurio sent off. He tires of the Roman scene and feels that he could better spend his off seasons studying with the Magi. He anounces in the letter his intention to come in mid Spring. The magi add more to the budget to get furniture and other essentials by the time the Magister arrives, feeling he would aid the Covenant. The second floor is altered to add room for him and his flock of servants.
  • On December 22, 1250 five Magi walked the border of the Tremain Covenant with Xtopherous in the lead to set up the essential Ageis of the Hearth at rank 25. This will protect the Covenant for one year.
  • The next day Nydia arrives with letters of confirmation from merchants that the goods should arrive early to mid spring. Nydia is invited to stay at the Covenant as the Magi could use a Redcap. Nydia agrees and is inducted as a Companion of the Tremain Covenant.
  • An unofficial meeting is held and a trip is planned to buy grain from the Abbey in Lurzen. Murcurio suggests bringing a gift for the church. The Magi agree and Xtopherous begins work on a life-size statue of Saint Barbara out of limestone. The statue is gilded with 5 lbs of gold and enameled by Venti. Marek says that the church should be pleased with the gift.
  • That night, Xtopherous, Marek, Nydia, Shmitty, and social grog by the name of Mort set off toward the town of Lurzen to arrive in the morning. Xtopherous carries the 800 lb statue with the aid of a spell.
  • The spell is cut short by the dominion aura and the statue is quickly put in the entrance.
  • The church agrees to provide the covenant with food for the year, thanks to the reputation of Xtopherous and 70 lbs of covenant silver.
  • Marek stays at the church and talks about the outside world to the priests there. He tries to lobby for the Magi's innocence in the goat theft.
  • Xtopherous heals some old lady.
  • Nydia recruits a carpenter and a blacksmith. Learns that an upholsterer lives in the next big town down the river.
  • Mort finds a down-on-his-luck crusader and invites him to live at the covenant. He is very old but will likely be able to train the grogs to fight as a group.
  • The group gathers around the cart of grain for the next season and heads back to the covenant.
  • Nydia and some grogs manage to capture five goats. Apparently Nydia speaks goat.
  • Xtopherous pays off the goat herder with a the five goats captured by Nydia then buys their house and invites them to the covenant. He intends to turn the house into a hospital for mundanes.
  • Xtopherous meets another magus who wishes to join the covenant, [Brent's Character's Name Here] of Verditious.
  • When they get back, a covenant meeting is held to discuss the new potential member and the standing with the church.
  • [Brent] is left with the grogs while a vote is held, the grogs do not like him.
  • Brent is voted in, furthermore the standard distilling vis probation is eliminated due to a high quality books that [Brent] brought with him. The library is noted to be meager.
  • Several issues were brought up about the Lurzen and interactions with the covenant, none were brought to a vote. It was the general consensous to keep a low profile.
  • Nydia was sent to intercept the merchants and pay for another set of lab equipment for [Brent].

Notes for January 25, 2007

  • Murcurio and Aristocles decide to wait outside of town until the grogs report.
  • Murcurio and Aristocles meet Silas of Bonisagas who is interested in joining the covenant.
  • The grogs come back with a report that Aristocles stole a goat and the peasants were hunting him.
  • The magi suspect magical influence and start hunting for tracks. They soon find tracks that match Aristocles's boots and walking pace.
  • Silas was exhausted from his journey and Aristocles carried him with his floating disk spell.
  • The tracks lead to a rather crudely dismembered and marked up goat body, sans head.
  • The magi bury the goat (with a spell) and follow the new tracks that now match Murcurio's footprints.
  • The tracks terminate at a shear cliff. After some searching the magi find an invisible ladder and climb it just as the angry mob arrives.
  • Further tracks lead into the forest. Fearing an ambush the magi send Helga the hunter grog first.
  • Helga reports seeing an old gypsy woman and her shapechanging accomplice at a campsite.
  • An ambush plan is hatched and after a few preparatory spells are cast, the magi notice that a demonic aura is about the place.
  • The ambush goes down without a hitch, the shapechanging demon is killed by poisoned arrow to the head, the gypsy hag by a water blast by Murcurio and her apprentice by Aristocles Earth's Carbuncle spell.
  • A search of the premisis found a golden fawn with half a rook of Creo vis in it. The demon's heart had 2 pawns of Muto vis and the hag's body contained a pawn of Corpus vis.
  • On the way back with the loot the magi find that the mob is still waiting and decide to wait them out at the hag's campsite.
  • After nightfall, Silas creates a zombie out of one of the apprentices and buries it in the snow to retrieve later.
  • The magi once again try to climb down to go home and find the owner of the goat still waiting at the frozen cliff.
  • The magi have the grogs feed and thaw the man and convince him to go back to the village. After he is gone the magi return to the covenant.
  • Xtopherous identifies the vis's forms and warns that the Muto and Corpus vis are demonically tainted. He demands they be traded or destroyed. Murcurio and Aristocles disagree and state that the covenant charter section on vis agrees with them. Xtopherous calls a covenant meeting.
  • The meeting is held in the tent as the hall is not yet completed. The first order of business is to induct Silas. Since he has brought his own vis the issue is voted on and unanimously approved and Silas becomes the fifth member of the Tremain covenant.
  • The issue of dealing with the tainted vis is brought up and a vote of 4 to 1 upholds the charter as written and the vis is thus added to the covenant stocks. Xtopherous states that he wants nothing to do with it and predicts doom to those who use it.
  • With the 5 Creo vis necessary for the Touch of Midas ritual the meeting then addresses the budget of the covenant.

Notes for January 15, 2007

  • Four magi meet on the 8th of January, 1250.
  • Locals warn that mountains are cursed.
  • Magi travel to the covenant site and set up tents, have first covenant meeting to create charter and name covenant.
  • The next day, magi talk to Verti the Architect and make plans for the main covenant building and the outer wall. With the help of Xtopherous and Materia the whole building will be complete in an estimated 2 weeks. Verti is overjoyed.
  • The other two mages head to town to look for potential Vis sources.
  • Murcurio gets ripped off by a Gypsy.

Mundane Resources:

Stone Quarry: Due to magical assistance the magi can quarry stone at a fast rate, aiding in the construction of the covenant buildings and wall. It is unlikely that the magi will be able to sell any of the stone (perhaps as marble) due to the difficulty moving it any great distance.

*Gold: Xtopherous of Ex Miscellanea knows the Touch of Midas ritual and is thus able to make gold if given enough (5 pawns) Creo or Terram vis. There have been speculations on how to use said gold without raising suspicion from the mundanes. A gold mine story or a private trader is a possibility.

*Food and payment for the grogs is a current problem, the grogs are loyal, but hunger is a good motivator for abandonment.

Going against any of the decisions in the charter will result in the revocation of member rights and placing the member on probation status until a time deemed by a vote of the remaining members. A second offence will result in expulsion from the covenant.”

  1. A member is a magus inducted into the covenant by passing any trials or tests included in this charter and voted to be via unanimous decision of current members. All members have equal right to bring forth and vote on issues in meetings in which they attend.
  2. Any potential member will be put on probation status, thus not allowed to join in covenant meetings or bring forth or vote on issues, until such a time that they have spent one season distilling vis for the covenant. This probation period can be avoided if the potential member brings vis with them.
  3. All vis will be stored on covenant grounds and used for the good of the entire covenant. Individual allocation of vis must be voted on.
  4. All books in the covenant that have worth for the covenant as a whole will be stored in the covenant's main library when not in use by a member.
  5. All members of the Covenant must attend a yearly meeting on the date of the covenant’s creation.
  6. All votes of the covenant in the tribunal shall be made with a pool of all the sigils of all the members. A meeting shall be held before each Tribunal to decide upon the issues.
